Power Rings Forever

No eBook review this time. Thought I would center my efforts on a movie instead, one that goes along with my own flair in writing.
It seems that on the various movie review sites the new Green Lantern movie is taking a beating. Some are saying the movie has been trashed by critics and that it was unremarkable as a superhero venue. I say those people are total moronic boneheads, and that's being extremely nice. Let's take a look at what this movie has to offer:
.
Awesome special effects.
Ok, I saw this in 3D, so perhaps the effects weren't as good when watched in average movie theaters. I wouldn't know. To me the effects were excellent, especially the space scenes. It's scenes like what this movie gave us in flying through the vastness of space that have always made me say, "If I were to gain control of a Green Lantern power ring you'd never see me on Earth again". Why? Think about it. If you have at your disposal the perfectly powered engine (also known as the perfect weapon - which it is), something that can and will keep you alive while traveling through space - why would you remain on Earth? You could travel throughout the entirety of the universe, seeing all the beautiful nebulae, galaxies, comets, ringed planets, what-have-you, which is some of what this movie tried to parlay into a theater-going experience. It worked for me.
.
The world's greatest comic book superhero and power.
As stated above, the power ring is the perfect weapon that allows a person not only to create absolutely everything that person can conceive of in his mind, but can instantaneously destroy whatever gets in his way. Ok, maybe that's just me. Perhaps I'm the only one who would use the power ring to blow things up, but hey, I also don't like driving on the interstate in rush-hour traffic (KA-BOOM!! hahahahahahahaha). Dr. Demento strikes again. Seriously, though who wouldn't give up his left nut-sa...er, I mean, ah, left arm to weild the all-powerful power ring from the planet OA? Heck, I'd even trade in my two cats, and everyone knows how much I love them. Still, no other hero in the known comic book or movie megaverses can possibly go up against Green Lantern and win if the GL in question knows what he's doing with that ring.
.
Great script and acting.
Some might not agree, but I thought everyone played their role perfectly in this movie and I have to say, my head is the biggest spoiler for movies like this in the entire world. By that I mean that having grown up on GL and all other superheroes, I know everything about them. While watching this movie all I had to do was hear someone's name (ie, Hector Hammond or Sinestro) and I knew what was going to happen with that character in the movie. Did it spoil the movie for me? Hell no. The actors chosen to play the parts carried the script through perfectly. They did a better job than the real people whose lives they portrayed...er, ah, I mean the comic book characters they were modeled after. And let me tell you, I have never been a Ryan Reynolds fan. Go ahead. Get your booing out of the way. That's right. RR to me is an inferior actor, but in THIS movie he excelled. Yes, I was in an uproar with my panties in a bunch when I first heard RR was chosen to play GL, my all-time favorite hero. Now that I've seen the movie may I say, Mr. Reynolds, you ARE Green Lantern .
.
The movie interpretation of the comic book hero and his fellow Green Lanterns was, to borrow a phrase from my Bristish friends "across the pond", "spot on". I never imagined a fight scene between two Green Lanterns, and there actually wasn't one in this film, either. There was, howwever, a scene on OA with Hal Jordan being trained by another - much marger - GL from another planet. This alien (Or was Hal the only "alien" in this scene?) did not play by the rules in his training, which I thought was a beautifully scripted and acted scene.
.
The alien menace (sorry, wrong movie) in this film, Parallax, was perfectly created and imagined by the CG effects. Nice touch, by the way. Kudos to the people behind-the-scenes who spent so many hours getting these CGs right.
.
Anyone remember in the Superman movie which introduced Christopher Reeves to us back in 1978 how the tag line was, "You'll finally believe a man can fly", or some such as that? That was good - for back in 1978. The flight scenes with Hal Jordan as Green Lantern were so far superior to what Superman ever showed that I found myself holding my breath. Great job again to those CG guys and gals. Applause, please.
.
Yes, the new Green Lantern movie was more than worth spending the money for and especially the extra to see it in 3D. If you have not seen it, please do so. Just remember to stay until after the credits roll to get the last little bit of surprise ending slightly into the credits (Not at the very end. NOTHING is at the very end of the credits **SPOILER*** Sorry). The end-bit was exactly as I imagined it to be. Glad to know I know my GL lore so well that I figured out what the producers would put at that little tesing spot. Heh. Maybe they'll even show Carol Ferris in the next movie as Star Sapphire, ya think? I hope. Damn, she was hot.
.
And of course for your enjoyment - a GL trailer to whet your appetites:
