Ghost? Mortal? More?

 Few books catch my interest and hold it like being clamped in a vise that is squeezing tighter and tighter until I pop. While I have yet to pop, and hope I don't, after reading Mortal Ghost, by L. Lee Lowe, I am left wishing the book hadn't ended yet and I still had more of it to read. Not that the ending to this excellent supernatural mystery wasn't everything it should have been, but simply that it was such a great read I want more of it.

In Mortal Ghost, we find Jesse Wright, an orphan, homeless, on the run from both social services and the cops, for reasons only he knows the truth about. Then Jesse happens to meet up with another teenager, Sarah Anderson, who manages to get him to come home with her and eventually meet her parents, Meg, who is a psychiatric specialist at a nearby hospital and Finn, a traveling, international photographer. Each of these newcomers to Jesse's life have tortured pasts of their own, but once they meet this wayward youth their lives begin to change for the better. Not that Jesse does anything to change these people he has recently met and who have invited him into their home and lives, but simply that growing close to this youth causes those about him to experience changes they never would have expected.

But Jesse is not only a youth with secrets, for certainly he has a sordid past, he is also someone with inherent power - power that eventually wells up within him and forces its way out where its effects can be seen and felt by others. These effects are not always - or usually - of the good kind.

Mortal Ghost brings us a look into the life of an extraordinary youth as well as possible insights to our own souls. It is not possible to read this book and not wonder about our own lives and how we live them, not to mention how we present ourselves to others. Mortal Ghost is a soul-searching story of mystery, drama, love and adventure that will keep you turning page after page after page until the end comes looming up at you and you realize there needs to be more. Perhaps there will be, but for now, the author leaves us with a satisfying ending that weaves its way into our minds and hearts and lets us know this author knows how to tell a story.
